Justin Smith is a member of the Agile Transformation Team (ATT) in the SEI’s Software Solutions Division, where he is responsible for coaching leaders and teams through Agile adoption in areas both directly and indirectly related to software development. Smith’s particular interests are in adopting Agile principles for non-traditional uses, such as Agile independent verification and validation (IV&V), and coaching people through difficult challenges. Prior to coming to the SEI, Smith was with NASA, where he spent 13 years as both a contractor and civil servant. Smith started out as a space shuttle instructor at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. After the space shuttle program ended, Smith transitioned into project management with NASA’s Katherine Johnson IV&V Facility in Fairmont, W.Va., managing several human-rated IV&V projects for NASA. At the end of Smith’s NASA career, he supported leadership and development across the agency as the learning and development operations lead for NASA Headquarters.
