FloCon 2020 Registration Open

FloCon 2020 Registration Open

Registration for FloCon 2020 is now open. The event will take place January 6-9 in Savannah, Ga. FloCon provides a forum for exploring large-scale, next-generation data analytics in support of security operations. The gathering is geared toward operational analysts, tool developers, researchers, security professionals, and others interested in using large datasets for protection and defense of networked systems.

Timur Snoke, conference chair and senior network defense analyst in the CERT Division of the SEI, said that the conference will be fertile ground for collaboration. “Attendees will have opportunities to discuss shared problems with others in the field and identify ideas that can get more traction, to solve the problems we don’t know of yet.”

The FloCon 2020 call for abstracts is also open, now through August 23. Presentations will explore cutting-edge techniques for analyzing and visualizing large datasets for cybersecurity operations. Submissions should relate to academic and practical advances in analytics that utilize one or more data types and include the automation of well-known or novel techniques.

Netflow data was the focus of FloCon events through 2017. Now, however, the conference welcomes insights on analytics of any large-scale dataset to enhance security. The theme for this year’s event, the 16th annual, is “Using Data to Defend.”

“The world keeps changing, and threats keep evolving,” said Snoke. “We must continue to do more, and more intelligently, with less.”

The conference’s first day will feature two tracks of training. “Introduction to Data Science for Cybersecurity: Concepts” will be led by CounterFlow AI data scientists Andrew Fast, Collins Huff, and Don Rude. Eliezer Kanal, Data Science technical manager within the SEI's CERT Division, and Lena Pons, CERT Division machine learning research scientist, will lead “AI Is Not Magic.”

The remaining days will be devoted to general-session presentations and speakers. Ryan Kovar, principal security strategist at Splunk, will be the conference’s featured speaker.
