PITTSBURGH, Pa., October 11, 2012—The Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute (SEI) recently announced that the ninth annual SEI Architecture Technology User Network (SATURN) Conference will be held in Minneapolis, Minn., April 29 to May 3, 2013. The Call for Submissions is now open. 

The SATURN Conference is the flagship event of the SEI Architecture User Network, a community of architecture practitioners and researchers from around the world. The annual software architecture conference is held to provide practicing software architects, industry thought leaders, developers, technical managers, and researchers with a venue to meet, share ideas, network, and learn about new and current architecture technologies and practices.

For the fourth year, IEEE Software magazine will collaborate with the SEI on the SATURN Conference. The extended collaboration continues to enhance the conference experience for participants with talks by IEEE Software board members, networking events, and the opportunity to be published in an issue of IEEE Software magazine.

"We are pleased to continue collaborating with IEEE Software to offer the only architecture-related conference devoted exclusively to the needs of practitioners," said Bill Pollak, SATURN 2013 conference chair. "The IEEE Software collaboration brings benefits to presenters and attendees, including the chance to be recognized with an attendee-selected presenter award and the opportunity for an article based on the conference presentations to be published in IEEE Software."

The SATURN 2013 technical program will cover topics including, but not limited 

• experiences and insights designing and developing front- and back-end architectures
• lessons learned from successes and failures with integration
• application of methods and tools, and
• technical leadership

"At IEEE Software, our focus is on highlighting the latest advances in technologies for software engineering, including software architecting," said Forrest Shull, editor in chief, IEEE Software. "But more than hearing about the technologies themselves, we are looking for the authors who can thoughtfully describe their strengths and weaknesses in practice. We are very happy to partner with SATURN because it is one of the best venues for hearing about such empirical results from the field, told by practicing software architects. It is an important snapshot of the leading edge of practice."
