SEI Architecture Technology User Network (SATURN) News and Updates

Record Attendance at SATURN 2013; Tutorials Available; Special Events Planned

Posted on by in

The international software architecture community has responded to this year’s SATURN technical program by setting a new attendance record for the SEI Architecture Technology User Group (SATURN) Conference. SATURN, now in its 9th year, will be held at the Marriott City Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from April 29 to May 3, 2013, and registration is still open. Currently 181 people are registered to attend, breaking the previous SATURN attendance record of 166 attendees in 2011.

Most SATURN tutorials are still available to both new registrants and those who are already registered for SATURN, including Pragmatic Solution Architecting with Risk- and Cost-Driven Architecture by Eltjo Poort of GGI, and Attribute-Driven Design in the Real World by Rick Kazman of the SEI and Humberto Cervantes of Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana – Iztapalapa. If you are already registered for SATURN and wish to enroll in additional tutorials, you can update your registration here before Wednesday, April 24, 2013 or register for tutorials on site. In addition to tutorials, popular SEI courses, keynote and invited presentations, and two days of high-quality technical presentations, the SATURN technical committee has added to the program several networking events and what we expect to be a compelling and engaging panel discussion. At 4:15 on Wednesday afternoon, May 1, attendees can choose to participate in any of three networking events:

  1. Lightning talks. In addition to the talks already selected by the program committee, we will invite attendees at SATURN to volunteer for lightning talks before or during this session.
  2. Birds of a feather session on Architectural Decisions: The State of Affairs and the Way Forward, hosted by SATURN Program Co-Chair Olaf Zimmermann of University of Applied Sciences, Rapperswil (HSR FHO).
  3. “Open Space.” SATURN attendees will be able to volunteer to lead table discussions on a topic of their choosing--a recurring problem, an innovative solution, or any topic of general interest to software architects--or participate in discussions on topics that interest them.
At 2:45 on Thursday, May 2, we will present a panel discussion moderated by Rick Kazman of the SEI on How to Architect Long-Living Systems. Panelists will be SATURN Keynote Speaker Stephan Murer of Credit Suisse, Martin Naadele of ABB, Don O’Connell of Boeing, and Linda Northrop and Ian Gorton of the SEI. SATURN 2013 will present a unique and valuable learning and networking opportunity for software architects. If you have not yet registered for SATURN, we hope you will reconsider and register now!
