Shaping the future of software for a better world.
Our Mission
We establish and advance software as a strategic advantage for national security. We lead and direct research and transition of software engineering and related disciplines at the intersection of academia, industry, and government.
We cannot expect success fighting tomorrow’s conflicts with yesterday’s weapons or equipment. […] We will […] invest in cyber defense, resilience, and the continued integration of cyber capabilities into the full spectrum of military operations.

Our Objectives and Research
Our Process

Research
We research software and cybersecurity problems of considerable complexity. We apply first principles of relevant information science, computer science, and mathematics to mature the disciplines of engineering and secure software systems

Prototype
We create and test innovative technologies, presenting proofs of concept and demonstration systems to customers and stakeholders. This ensures viability of new approaches at the earliest possible stage of the development process.

Mission Application
We apply our expertise to a variety of Department of Defense, federal agency, and private-sector problem sets. Being a nimble organization, we are able to deploy such expertise on demand to assist with the planning and execution of especially critical, urgent, or sensitive projects.

Training & Education
We engage in technology transfer with the global software and systems engineering communities by developing curricula, hosting events, sharing our publications, and offering downloadable software and tools. These and other education and outreach efforts help us transition solutions into widespread use, advance the state of the art, and uncover new areas of research.

Feedback
Each of our activities reinforces our expertise in the others, creating a feedback loop through which we continue to improve our work. For example, creating applications for real-world missions feeds our research. In turn, our research improves, and we can deliver better applications and prototypes, as well as informed training and education.
