SEI Supports National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October 2, 2019—This week, the SEI CERT Division kicked off its support of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM), an annual event sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. This month, the CERT Division will release a number of cybersecurity blog posts and host a webinar on organizational cybersecurity practices.
Every October, the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Careers and Studies (NICCS), an office of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, sponsors the month-long collaboration between government and industry "to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and to ensure that all Americans have the resources they need to be safer and more secure online." NCSAM 2019 emphasizes personal accountability and proactivity to enhance cybersecurity at home and at work.
The CERT Division has been a leader in cybersecurity research since its founding in 1988. The CERT Division started its contributions to NCSAM this week with CERT Division Managing Director Bobbie Stempfley's blog post, "Helping the Federal Government Achieve the Cyber Advantage." She writes, "The SEI's focus on the interrelated issues of software engineering, cyber, and artificial intelligence allows us to address present and future threat environments." Stempfley's post is the first of a number of planned CERT Division blog posts this month to discuss recent work by CERT researchers as well as cybersecurity engineering or best practices.
The CERT Division will also host a webinar on October 16 titled "Cyber Hygiene: Why the Fundamentals Matter," featuring Matt Butkovic, acting technical director of risk and resilience, Randy Trzeciak, director of the CERT National Insider Threat Center, and Matt Trevors, team lead for cybersecurity assurance.
