SATURN Conference on Software Architecture Opens Call for Submissions

November 7, 2019—The SEI Architecture Technology User Network (SATURN) 2020 conference has opened its call for technical program submissions. Proposals are due by January 10 at the conference’s PaperCall online system. SATURN 2020 will be held May 11-14 in Orlando, Florida.
The 16th annual SATURN conference brings together an international audience of practicing software architects, industry thought leaders, developers, technical managers, and researchers to share ideas, insights, and experience about effective architecture-centric practices for developing and maintaining software-intensive systems.
The three topic areas for this year’s technical program are machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), and data-centric systems; modern approaches for architecting distributed systems; and other design and development techniques, patterns, and solutions.
“Successful architects have skills and knowledge in technologies, technical approaches, and tools and methods,” said John Klein, conference organizer and principal member of the technical staff in the SEI’s Software Solutions Division. “Our three topic areas cover these three facets. Machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data-centric systems are key technologies for today's systems. Any system that uses cloud computing is a distributed system, and distributed systems call for particular approaches to achieve qualities like performance, availability, and usability. Finally, architects have to master many tools and skills to effectively represent technical designs, analyze those designs, and communicate with stakeholders.”
Proposals may be for a first-hand experience report, technical talk, tutorial, or a TED-style presentation called a DEV@SATURN talk. “We are looking for submissions that share the speaker's experience and knowledge about the topic areas,” said Klein. “Experience talks will tell us what happened, how it happened, and most importantly, why it happened. Technical talks will cover a technology, method, or tool and its benefits and costs.”
Accepted speakers will receive free or discounted admission to the conference.
