FloCon 2021 Adds Secure Coding Tournament, Insider Threat Talk
• Article
January 7, 2021—FloCon, the Software Engineering Institute's international conference on data analysis for security, has added two elements to its program: a secure coding tournament and a talk on insider threat detection. FloCon 2021 will be held online Tuesday, January 12, through Friday, January 15.
In the Thursday afternoon talk "Applying Text Analytics to Insider Threat Detection," Dan Costa and Carrie Gardner of the SEI's CERT Division will discuss how text analytics can be used to enhance an organization's insider risk management practices, highlight the state of the practice, identify current limitations, and present strategies for incorporating text analytic capabilities into a broader insider threat data collection and analysis process.
FloCon will also feature a secure coding tournament, sponsored by Secure Code Warrior, to run Thursday morning to Friday morning. Players of various skillsets will be challenged to identify, locate, and fix vulnerabilities in code. The top three finishers will receive prizes. FloCon registrants will receive an email invitation to register for the tournament.
FloCon 2021 will focus on "Using Data to Defend." The keynote speakers are Facebook data scientist Lauren Deason and professor of computer science Ambareen Siraj, who was recently named 2020 Cybersecurity Person of the Year by Cybersecurity Ventures.
