Abstract
Watch and download presentations from Day 3 of the 2022 SEI Research Review event. At the 2022 Research Review, our researchers detail how they are forging a new path for software engineering by executing the SEI’s technical strategy to deliver tangible results. They highlight methods, prototypes, and tools aimed at the most important problems facing the Department of Defense (DoD), industry, and academia, including artificial intelligence (AI) engineering, computing at the tactical edge, threat hunting, continuous integration/continuous delivery, and machine learning trustworthiness. Learn how our researchers' work in areas such as model-based systems engineering, DevSecOps, automated design conformance, software/cyber/AI integration, and AI network defense—to name a few—has produced value for the U.S. DoD and advanced the state of the practice.
Day 3 included the following sessions:
- Refactoring for Software Isolation | James Ivers
- Automated Design Conformance during Continuous Integration | Dr. Robert Nord, James Ivers, and Lena Pons
- Automation Technology for Continuous Estimation for Pipelines of Pipelines | Dr. William Nichols
- Advancing Algorithms For File Deduplication Across Containers | Kevin Pitstick
- Semantic-Equivalence Checking of Decompiled Binaries | Dr. Will Klieber
- Developing the Acquisition Security Framework (ASF) towards Integrating Supply Chain Risk Management into the Program Acquisition and Engineering Lifecycles | Dr. Carol Woody, Charles Wallen, Chris Alberts, and Mike Bandor

Refactoring for Software Isolation
• Presentation
By James Ivers
This project extends a refactoring assistant that automates the majority of the work required for software isolation.
Learn MoreAutomated Design Conformance during Continuous Integration
• Presentation
By Robert Nord
This project developed an automated conformance checker prototype that can be used in a continuous integration workflow to detect and report nonconformances within minutes.
Learn MoreACE/PoPs: Program Information at the Speed of Relevance
• Presentation
By Bill Nichols
This project envisions instrumenting the complex software production environments typical of the DoD to continuously monitor the DevSecOps pipeline and use that data to continuously update estimates for cost, schedule, …
Learn MoreAdvancing Algorithms for File Deduplication Across Containers
• Presentation
By Kevin A. Pitstick
This project supports the Department of Defense's use of containers to support its vision of a cloud-to-edge continuum in which capabilities packaged as containers are pushed from the cloud to …
Learn MoreSemantic Equivalence Checking of Decompiled Binaries
• Presentation
By William Klieber
This project was launched to develop and implement techniques for automated semantic-equivalence checking.
