Michael Riley (Veris Group)

Michael Riley is a principal embedded software resiliency engineer in the Software Solutions Division at the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI). He has 20 years’ experience as an engineer in the embedded software and cyber spaces. He has applied his skills and knowledge developing locomotives, medical devices, and satellites, and securing critical infrastructure. He is an inventor on 12 U.S. patents in the areas signal analysis, high pressure fluid dynamics, and occlusion measurement techniques. Before joining the SEI, Riley worked for the United States Army, Bayer Corporation and at the U.S. Naval Research Lab. He served as a commissioned officer in multiple U.S. Army Cyber organizations including

  • Chief of Network Surveillance for Army
  • ACERT Red Cell Commander
  • Cyber Defense and Protection Team Lead

Riley's current research focus is on cyber resilient software, mission & threat analysis, and anomaly detection techniques in the embedded software space. His work has been published in American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Space Forum magazine.

Riley holds an MS in Software Systems Engineering from George Mason University and BS in Electrical Engineering from Gannon University.
